Six Years, One Home: Why Residents Stay at The Belmont by Reside

November 2, 2026

What does it really mean when a resident stays somewhere for six years?

It means a lot has happened. Leases renewed again and again. Seasons changed outside those big Lakeview windows. A century-old building kept doing what century-old buildings do, occasionally testing the people who live in it. And through all of it, one couple kept choosing to stay.

That's the story at the heart of a recent five-star Google review from a recent resident and it's the kind of review that says more about a community than any amenity list ever could.

A Landmark Building with a Story of Its Own

Before getting to the review, it helps to understand what makes The Belmont by Reside worth staying at for six years in the first place.

Located at 3170 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, The Belmont is a true Chicago landmark.
The building started its life as a hotel and has since been reimagined into 307 apartment homes across twelve stories, with studios, and one, two, and three bedroom layouts. It's the kind of building people mean when they talk about "vintage charm." Think hardwood floors, oversized windows, and a sense of history that a brand new high rise simply can't replicate. That same history is exactly what Sam Cipar was referring to when he mentioned the building's age and the occasional maintenance challenge that comes with it.

The location does plenty of the talking too. The Belmont sits just across the street from Belmont Harbor and Lake Shore Drive, putting residents a short walk from the Lakefront Trail, Lincoln Park's 1,200 acres of green space, and the boat harbors and bird sanctuary that make this stretch of the city so beloved. Wrigley Field, the shops and restaurants of Southport Corridor, and the Belmont Red, Brown, and Purple Line station are all within easy reach, and the building carries a Walk Score in the 90s, meaning nearly everything residents need is right outside the front door.

Inside, the amenities match the setting. Residents enjoy a rooftop sundeck with grilling stations, a Sky Lounge for entertaining, a fitness center, a business center, guest suites for visitors, bike storage, and on site parking, all backed by a 24/7 concierge desk. It's a building designed to feel less like a place people rent and more like a place people belong.

That last part is exactly what this resident’s review is about.

The Review That Says It All

"My wife and I spent almost 6 years at the Reside and have nothing but great things to say about the different teams."

Six years. In a city like Chicago, with no shortage of shiny new buildings competing for renters' attention, that kind of tenure isn't an accident. It's earned, one interaction, one fixed leak, one friendly hello at a time. Most residents move on after a lease or two, chasing a better view or a shorter commute. For him and his wife to stay put for six full years, something at The Belmont had to be working, and working consistently.

That something, according to the resident, was the people.

Meet the People Behind the Five Stars

What makes this review so compelling isn't a single glowing sentence. He didn't just say "great staff." He named names, team by team, because each group left its own mark on his family's time at The Belmont.

The Concierge Team: Jason, Phillip, April, Sean, and Daniela
Sam described them as people who brought a smile to his face just by being in the building. Beyond handling deliveries and event questions, they were, in his words, simply great people to talk to. That's a high bar for a concierge desk to clear, and one this team cleared daily for six years straight. A great concierge team does more than sit behind a desk. They become a familiar, friendly constant in a resident's day, whether that's a quick chat while grabbing the mail or a real assist when a package goes missing.

The Maintenance Team: Rene, Luis, Andy, Michael, and the rest of the crew.
What truly stands out about The Belmont by Reside is the efficiency and responsiveness of our maintenance team. They were reliable, kept a positive attitude, and communicated clearly from start to finish. That combination of timeliness and clear communication is exactly what turns a standard maintenance request into great service for our residents.

The Housekeeping Team: Danny and team
Keeping a historic property looking sharp takes constant effort, and the residents notice. Vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, and keeping the exterior grounds spotless are the kind of unglamorous, consistent work that residents feel every single day, even when they don't think to mention it. It's the difference between a lobby that looks nice for a photo and a building that actually feels cared for around the clock.

The Real Amenity: The People

Here's the line that sums up the whole review:

"What made The Belmont by Reside so special to us was the people on-site working day in and day out to create the best possible experience."

Not the rooftop sundeck. Not the hardwood floors or the vintage character. Not the location across the street from the harbor and Lake Michigan. The people.

It's a good reminder that in apartment living, the physical space only tells half the story. The other half is written by the concierges who remember your name, the maintenance techs who show up with a good attitude on their fifth call of the day, and the housekeeping team that treats common areas like their own front porch. A building can have every amenity on the list and still feel like a place people are only passing through. What turns it into a home is the team that shows up, day after day, year after year, and makes residents feel seen.

Management Responded, and Meant It

The Belmont's Regional Manager, Mindy Bruscemi, replied to this review personally:

"Wow! Thank you so much for the positive rating, and thanks for choosing to reside with us for 6 years! Your kind words about our staff mean so much to us."

It's a small thing, but it matters. A management team that reads reviews, recognizes staff by name, and stays open to more feedback is a management team that's actually paying attention. It also reflects something residents notice long before they ever write a review that the people running the building care about getting it right, not just about filling vacancies.

Good to Know: Keeping The Belmont Running Smoothly

This review is a great look at what the team does behind the scenes, but residents don't have to just take his word for it. Here's what to expect day-to-day and how to get help fast if you ever need it.

Submitting a Maintenance Request

Have a maintenance issue? Don't wait. Submit a request as soon as you notice something isn't working right, whether it's a dripping faucet or a flickering light. The sooner it's reported, the sooner the team can get to it.

To submit a request:

  1. Login into your Resident Services portal
  2. Request Maintenance: Provide a description and additional details for our maintenance team to be aware of.
  3. We’ll notify you when your request has been reviewed and is ready to be worked on.

A Landmark Living Up to Its Name

The Belmont by Reside has built its reputation on that same combination: a beautifully renovated, historic building in one of Chicago's best-located neighborhoods, backed by a team that treats residents like neighbors instead of unit numbers. The lobby, common areas, and apartment finishes have all been refreshed to honor the building's original character, but reviews like Sam's are proof that the real renovation happened somewhere else, too, in the culture built by the people who show up every day to take care of residents.

Six years is a long time to call any apartment home. At The Belmont, it seems, that's exactly the point, and it's a big part of why so many residents choose to stay well past their first lease.
