Why We Love State & Chestnut

February 15, 2017

A Little Background: Until recently Reside was known for scooping up properties throughout the Chicago area and breathing new life into them. Our first ground up project located at 845 N. State St. opened its doors to residents in June of 2015. State & Chestnut is located in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. The building offers studios, convertibles, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments in one of Chicago’s most historic areas. For the first time in our company’s history we were able to design, decorate and build something that was completely ours. From the moment you walk inside it’s clear that State & Chestnut was designed with our residents in mind and that’s something that makes us very proud.

The Building: The building is lively and modern inside and out. One of the best parts of living in a city like Chicago is watching the evolution of its skyline. Recently we’ve seen beautiful contemporary buildings sprouting up all over the city with a very distinctive look to them. The look is known as “sliced minimalism” and we think it’s here to stay. Sliced minimalism involves cutting straight slots and meandering ribbons into mirror-smooth surfaces of reflective glass giving buildings a cool bright quality. For us it was a no brainer to go this route.

Spaces: We love spaces. Upon entering State & Chestnut you’ll notice how many spaces there are for our residents to socialize, work, and relax. SEVEN the buildings resident lounge, offers premium amenities and is open 24/7. Steps away, you’ll find the fitness center, which is loaded with state-of-the-art equipment and a yoga room. The 8,000 square foot, fully landscaped Terrace is an all-season treat that will make you forget you’re living downtown. True to Reside Living fashion there are even dedicated areas for pets. Not only does the building offer a dog run they have a pup spa as well!

The Best Part: Ok so we saved the best for last because that’s what you’re supposed to do. The resident Sky Lounge is a design lover’s paradise. Each piece of furniture has its own funky flare to it. There’s a state of the art test kitchen, big screen TV’s and windows galore. Just on the other side of those windows you have the State & Chestnut rooftop. The views from this rooftop are outrageous. Lake Michigan and almost every landmark Chicago building is visible making for a stunning backdrop. On a hot summer day you can cool off in State & Chestnuts dipping pool while sipping a cool drink and building gazing. At the end of the day our goal was to provide a truly lovely space for people to call home and deliver a building to the city of Chicago that contributed to its beauty. There’s no doubt that State & Chestnut has achieved both.

It’s no secret that there are perks to living in downtown Chicago. There’s the walk-to-everything convenience, like grabbing a coffee on your way to the gym, picking up groceries on the walk home, and rarely needing to plan around a commute. Transit access is hard to beat, especially in The Loop, where every CTA line converges. Car-free living comes naturally here, whether you’re heading to work, meeting friends, or exploring the city. This means no traffic, no parking headaches, no wasted time. And boredom? Not an option. Millennium Park. The Art Institute of Chicago. The Chicago Theatre. Michigan Avenue. The Bean. Willis Tower. Festivals, concerts, museums, public art… Culture isn’t something you visit, it’s something you live inside every day. Add in skyline, river, and lake views, and downtown living delivers an unmistakably Chicago experience. But what if you don’t work downtown? What if you want to keep your car? Maybe you’re looking for quieter streets, more neighborhood restaurants and bars, or tree-lined sidewalks where your dog can set the pace. Or maybe downtown Chicago just isn’t your vibe, and that’s okay. Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, and each one offers its own version of city living. From strong transit access and walkability to vibrant local scenes and more breathing room at home, there are plenty of Chicago neighborhoods that deliver big-city perks without the downtown feel. Here are some of the best Chicago neighborhoods to live in if you want everything you love about the city, without living downtown.
