Chicago offers a variety of opportunities for residents to stay active and engaged, and one of the best ways to get involved in a new community is through intramural sports! From classic favorites like basketball and soccer to more unique offerings like bocce ball and ping pong, there's something for everyone. Join us as we explore some of our favorite leagues that promise not only friendly competition but also a sense of belonging inside and out of your Reside community.

Chicago Sport and Social Club

Among one of the top choices for intramural sports in Chicago is the Chicago Sport and Social Club (CSSC). With a mission to bring people together through sports and social events, CSSC has been a staple in the city's recreational scene for years. The Club has over 100,000 annual participants with a focus on active young professionals from all over the city. Enjoy over 20 different sports options, from common sports like soccer, basketball, and beach volleyball to more unconventional options such as cornhole and floor hockey. What sets CSSC apart is not only its diverse range of sports but also its social atmosphere. Attend after-game festivities at local bars, go to festivals, concerts, and tournaments at your favorite venues, or make it to costume parties and trivia nights. CSSC is a great option for creating memorable experiences throughout the city.

Players Sport & Social Group

Players Sport & Social Group is another great option in Chicago's intramural sports scene, also known for its commitment to blending sports with social events. With a diverse selection of sports catering to various skill levels and interests, you can enjoy an inclusive environment while playing sports like soccer, dodgeball, football, and even curling. Beyond the thrill of competition, Players Sport & Social Group emphasizes the importance of social events, with activities like wine tastings and volleyball tournaments. This spring and summer, join them for a 0.5k Lazy Run, Tequila & Sangria Festival, or a private Beach Party at North Avenue Beach!

Simply Social Sports

Simply Social Sports (S3) has been in the intramural game for over 15 years, having hosted over 970 leagues and nearly 35,000 alumni within that time. True to its name, S3 provides an environment where you can come together with other active adults to enjoy sports in a laid-back and friendly environment. There’s something for everyone to enjoy–try your favorites like kickball, volleyball, or softball, or try something new like whirlyball or skeeball. They also offer more events beyond their sports leagues, like free family yoga at a variety of parks around Chicago the park, discounted $5 tickets to comedy shows at the Laugh Factory on the first Friday of every month, and river tube floating trips!

Women’s Sports Chicago

Founded in 2012, Women's Sports Chicago (WSC) initially started as a meetup group and is now a multi-sport community with over 500+ women. They provide a safe and inclusive space for individuals of all backgrounds and skill levels to compete, have fun, stay healthy, and build lasting friendships around Chicago. Enjoy basketball, soccer, and volleyball in a supportive environment where you can thrive both on and off the field!

It’s no secret that there are perks to living in downtown Chicago. There’s the walk-to-everything convenience, like grabbing a coffee on your way to the gym, picking up groceries on the walk home, and rarely needing to plan around a commute. Transit access is hard to beat, especially in The Loop, where every CTA line converges. Car-free living comes naturally here, whether you’re heading to work, meeting friends, or exploring the city. This means no traffic, no parking headaches, no wasted time. And boredom? Not an option. Millennium Park. The Art Institute of Chicago. The Chicago Theatre. Michigan Avenue. The Bean. Willis Tower. Festivals, concerts, museums, public art… Culture isn’t something you visit, it’s something you live inside every day. Add in skyline, river, and lake views, and downtown living delivers an unmistakably Chicago experience. But what if you don’t work downtown? What if you want to keep your car? Maybe you’re looking for quieter streets, more neighborhood restaurants and bars, or tree-lined sidewalks where your dog can set the pace. Or maybe downtown Chicago just isn’t your vibe, and that’s okay. Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, and each one offers its own version of city living. From strong transit access and walkability to vibrant local scenes and more breathing room at home, there are plenty of Chicago neighborhoods that deliver big-city perks without the downtown feel. Here are some of the best Chicago neighborhoods to live in if you want everything you love about the city, without living downtown.
